Project improvement

Brief
Create a panoramic/horizontal layout of five images that photographically showcase a narrative that focusses or accentuates one or more of the visual qualities of shape, texture, pattern, colour and tonal value. The overall aim is to use black and white photography as a medium to tell a story or portray a concept through these five images. The visual sequence should contain three documentary images and two fashion images.

Rationale
I decided to build the narrative of my photograph sequence around the visual qualities of shape, texture and pattern. I wanted to show how these three qualities interact, juxtaposed, complimented and almost merge into each other, to create a visually interesting and engaging layout and narrative.

The subject matter I chose to focus on, particularly for the three documentary images, was a combination of natural foliage, light/white box-like shapes and backgrounds that had geometric patterns on them, as well as, elements that created curved or cross-like shapes. These elements and images ended up inspiring the compositions and items featured in the fashion images, which resulted in a selection of hipster-like and laid-back, almost beach themed fashion shots.

The final layout of the five images had to be balanced and lead the viewer on a visual journey through the narrative sequence and I decided to use the strong diagonal shapes and curves in the images to lead the viewer’s eye.

٠However, I have taken the feedback regarding the sequence layout, I received after the project submission and have made appropriate changes to create a better visual flow between the five photographs. To view this updated version, please refer to
